GENERAL RACE INFORMATION

DATE: Sunday, August 1st, 2010.
TIME: 7 am.
LOCATION: Hamsterly Beach, North end of Elk Lake beside the Pat Bay Highway, 13km North of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
DISTANCE: Triathlon - 1.5km Swim, 40km Cycle and 10km Run; Duathlon -5km Run, 40km Cycle, 10km Run. See Youth Athletes for Youth Triathlon Distances.
CHAMPIONCHIP: Each competitor must wear a ChampionChip timing device. In the event that your Chip is not returned at the end of the race, you will be charged a $40 replacement fee.

Individual Age Class

  • Trophy to overall male and female winner.
  • Awards to top three male finishers and top three female finishers in each following age class: 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.
Relay Teams
  • Awards to top three finishers in each of the following categories: MenWomen,MixedMasters (combined age of 130 years or more) and SuperMasters(combined age of 160 years or more). Note: Each triathlon team must have three members.
Athena (Women) and Clysdesdale (Men)
  • Awards to top three finishers in each of the following age class: 20-34, 35-49 and 50+. Note: Athena 150lb+, Clydesdale 200lb+. Weigh-in is mandatory at race package pick-up.
Special Relay Team Categories
  • The Rec and Fitness Center Triathlon Relay Challenge Cup. This is the fifth year that local Victoria Recreation Centers will be invited to compete for this annualChallenge Cup.
  • The Police/Fire/Medics Triathlon Relay Challenge Cup. This is the fourth year for police, firefighters and paramedics to compete for this annual Challenge Cup.

DUATHLON

* Youth entry fees includes insurance.   Please Note: Youth 18/19 may contact the Self-Transcendence Triathlon (info@scmt.ca or 250 592-6211) to request a switch of their youth triathlon category to the Olympic distance race for the same $30 youth triathlon fee.

Notes:

  1. Non Tri BC members must add $15/individual or $6/relay team member.
  2. No refunds. No exceptions.
  3. Select individual category based on your age on December 31, 2010.

RACE WEEKEND

Bicycle Safety Check-up:
  Oak Bay Bicycle will be on site Saturday, July 31 and race day morning to offer optional bike check. However, it is emphasized that competitors are responsible for the road worthiness and correct operation of their bicycle.
Race Packet Pick-up:
  Race packet pick-up is at the race site, Hamsterly Beach, Brookleigh Road, at the north end of Elk Lake. Time: Friday, July 30 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturday, July 31from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. No race packets will be given out the day of race.
Pre-race Meeting:
  There will be Pre-race Meetings for all athletes on Saturday, July 31 at the race site at Hamsterly Beach. Everyone is encouraged to attend these meetings, especially first time triathletes. Our meetings are not long, focus on safety and give competitors chances to ask questions. Following the short meeting, the race officials will be available to answer questions on an individual basis. The meeting for athletes in the Youth Categories will start at 1:15 pm. The meeting for athletes in the Adult Categories will start at 2:00 pm.

THE DAY OF RACE

Race day check-in:
  On race day all competitors MUST check in between 6:00 am - 6:45 am.
Race Start: Race Start is 7 am sharp on Sunday, August 1.  There will be a three wave start for the Youth at 7am followed by a four wave start for the Olympic distance race.
Awards: The Awards Ceremony and Prize-Draw will begin at approximately 11:30 am.
Results: Results will be available on the Internet. Link to the results will be provided after the race on this page as well as on our results page.

Ferry Info: Please note that July 31, August 1 and 2, is a long weekend in British Columbia and there will be line-ups at the ferry terminals. BC Ferries info: www.bcferries.com.

Notes:

  1. CRD Parks bylaws prohibit overnight camping in Elk Lake Park.
  2. If water temperature is above 22 C, wet suits are not permitted. The water temperature and the decision on whether or not wet suits will be allowed will be announced by 6:30am race day
  3. Weigh-in is mandatory at Race Package Pick-up for Athena and Clydesdale competitors.
  4. Awards will be presented based on the competitors age as of December 31, 2010.
  5. Tri BC rules state that bicycle helmets are compulsory. The helmet must be approved by an officially recognized testing authority (ANSI or Snell).
